Closing and prize giving was held on 25 November with a good field of 9 hole and 18 hole women playing 9 holes, followed by lunch, Christmas cake made by Jennifer Small, a celebratory drink and then prize giving. Winner of the Silver LGU medal was Jill Martin and the Bronze was won by Heather Gay. The Reta Steel Putting – Shirley Parkinson, Julie Howes Stableford – Francis Allen, Home Pennants – Francine Callis, Kapiti Net – Jill Martin, Veterans Net – Robyn Donaghy, and Par – Heather Gay.
Our AGM was held on 2 December followed by 18 holes of golf which once again was reduced to 9 holes due to thunder, lightning and rain. Resigning committee members are Margaret Thrupp, Jill Martin, Helen Booth, and Judy McLean. The new committee is Di Andrews, Gaynor Nairn, Maureen Creasy, Jill Bolland, Jo Brown, Joy Bilby, Elizabeth Kilmister, Jean Fink, Ngaire Cheevers, and Heather Peters. The Weekend Convener is Jane McLaren and the 9 hole conveners are Di North and Gwynne Turnbull. The meeting approved the change in format for playing the Club Championships, each round to be played at least 1 week apart, with all semi finals and finals to be played on a Sunday in conjunction with the men’s finals making this day an all Finals day, a review of monies spent on prize giving costs, and changing the final of the Bronze Cup to a 27 hole final.
The December 2010 meeting will be named the Annual Meeting of the Women’s Section with election of officers and any other business, as all accounts are now audited for the Club AGM in June.
We look forward to a good year of golf with a markedly improved weather outlook for all golfers. New members are most welcome, 9 hole members looking to play 18 holes are most welcome and vice versa, mid week members are welcome to play on Sundays and vice versa (after registering their intent) as long as we all get out there and enjoy the wonderful game of golf.
Gaynor Nairn, Women’s Captain
