Club News, The Course

Members will note from our Programme Booklet that the coring of all our greens is scheduled for 12-14 April.

The NZ Turf Institute (based at Massey University) have advised us that our thatch density is still at an unacceptable level and needs to be reduced from its current 11.3% to no more than 5%.  This problem, treated by a process called “scarifying”, was undertaken last year but it removed only 40% of the thatch that needed to be removed.

The process will, therefore, need to be repeated at the same time as the coring takes place next month in order to restore the greens to their optimal condition.

This will mean that our greens will inevitably be adversely affected for some time following this process as it will take longer for them to fully recover than would be the case with coring alone.

We very much regret this inconvenience and ask for your forbearance during this period.  We will, however, endeavour to come to an arrangement with neighbouring clubs to see if some sort of reciprocal rights and/or discounted green fees could apply to our members during this period of disruption.  We will advise you closer to the time.
