David Ward, Board member and Treasure for the past 2½ years, has resigned from the Board of Management effective from the end of February.

David’s increasing business and personal commitments have reached the stage where he feels he is no longer able to devote the time and energy needed to carry out his considerable duties as both Club Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee.

David’s energy, enthusiasm and considerable business knowledge and expertise have made a major contribution to the club’s strengthening financial position and the general effectiveness of our operation in so many areas. He will be sorely missed.

In the coming weeks, the Board will be exploring the options available to replace David and fill the gaps his departure will obviously create. In the meantime, David will be assisting with the preparation of the annual accounts for audit and reporting on them at our AGM in June.

David is also taking a break from golf and has decided not to renew his membership at this stage. We wish him well for the future, thank him for his sterling efforts on our behalf and look forward to his speedy return.

Peter Quin

Chairman

Board of Management

The Club’s official opening day is this Sunday, 31 January, starting at 8am with a champagne breakfast. It is a mixed stableford event.

All members will be sent their subscription invoice for the new financial year which begins for our club on 1 February. Wherever possible, we would like you to collect your envelope from the clubrooms next week if and when you are visiting the course. This method of distribution represents a substantial saving in postage. Uncollected envelopes will eventually be mailed out.

Included in this posting is your programme book for 2010 which you are asked to refer to throughout the year.

Remeber our first highlight of the year is our Quinovic Proam Tournament to be held on Tuesday 9 February. We look forward to a large crowd of helpers and spectators.

Happy golfing for 2010!

Over the holiday period, members will not be able to make tee bookings on line. Because this is a time when a large number of non-affiliated golfers visit our course and contribute significantly to our green fee income, the Club wants to enable them to book at the Pro Shop, epsecially after hours, without the risk of double bookings. Members who wish to book over this period will simply need to ring or visit the Pro Shop. The normal system will resume in the New Year.

Closing and prize giving was held on 25 November with a good field of 9 hole and 18 hole women playing 9 holes, followed by lunch, Christmas cake made by Jennifer Small, a celebratory drink and then prize giving. Winner of the Silver LGU medal was Jill Martin and the Bronze was won by Heather Gay. The Reta Steel Putting – Shirley Parkinson, Julie Howes Stableford – Francis Allen, Home Pennants – Francine Callis, Kapiti Net – Jill Martin, Veterans Net – Robyn Donaghy, and Par – Heather Gay.

Our AGM was held on 2 December followed by 18 holes of golf which once again was reduced to 9 holes due to thunder, lightning and rain. Resigning committee members are Margaret Thrupp, Jill Martin, Helen Booth, and Judy McLean. The new committee is Di Andrews, Gaynor Nairn, Maureen Creasy, Jill Bolland, Jo Brown, Joy Bilby, Elizabeth Kilmister, Jean Fink, Ngaire Cheevers, and Heather Peters. The Weekend Convener is Jane McLaren and the 9 hole conveners are Di North and Gwynne Turnbull. The meeting approved the change in format for playing the Club Championships, each round to be played at least 1 week apart, with all semi finals and finals to be played on a Sunday in conjunction with the men’s finals making this day an all Finals day, a review of monies spent on prize giving costs, and changing the final of the Bronze Cup to a 27 hole final.

The December 2010 meeting will be named the Annual Meeting of the Women’s Section with election of officers and any other business, as all accounts are now audited for the Club AGM in June.

We look forward to a good year of golf with a markedly improved weather outlook for all golfers. New members are most welcome, 9 hole members looking to play 18 holes are most welcome and vice versa, mid week members are welcome to play on Sundays and vice versa (after registering their intent) as long as we all get out there and enjoy the wonderful game of golf.

Gaynor Nairn, Women’s Captain

The Board has decided to hold next year’s subscriptions at this year’s levels for all categories.

In reaching this decision, we took into account the following factors:

the relatively low rate of inflation and movement in the CPI

our current financial performance which is on track to achieving an improved operating result, before grants, by year’s end

the Board’s decision to retain the current management structure into the next financial year when the benefits of this arrangement will be more fully realised. (This structure entails an Executive Committee of the Board of Management having the overall management responsibility.)

The Board remains committed to its key objectives, which are to

retire debt over the next few years

add value while further reducing overhead costs

reduce our reliance on Bank funding and replace it with members’ funds through our Debenture Scheme.

Thanks to the overwhelming support from members, our Debenture Scheme is currently fully subscribed. We don’t expect to need to re-open the scheme until the middle of next year.

CHAIRMAN
BOARD OF MANAGEMENT
