The entry sheets for the Men’s Club Championships, 6 Divisions are now on the noticeboard in the men’s locker room.

The list closes on Sunday 26th August, with the two qualifying rounds taking place on Sunday 2nd September and 9th September.

Weekend Men

Combined Net Stroke Cup – Congratulations to Chris Turner & Dave Morete winning with an excellent combined score of 145, achieved in awful weather conditions. 2nd were Gary Coutts & Roger Broadbelt with a score of 147.

2012 Shootout – Qualifying is drawing to a close with one Sunday remaining.  The majority of the 19 slots are already allocated, but there is still plenty of chance on this last weekend for significant movement from some of the players just outside the cut off point.  Dave Barrow remains at the head of qualifying with Ron Olivecrona on 209.

19th spot is held by the rapidly improving Dave Morete with 20th spot currently jointly held by Steve Smith & Mark Morrissey.  Anything can happen this weekend, even Club Captain, Ed Isaac who is 6 shots off the pace, can come through with a good round this week.

Men’s Interclub 2013 Season


(Under new management!)

  • ANDY WRAY is the new Men’ Interclub Convenor.  Andy is currently putting together his management team for 2013, so if you are interested in helping out by becoming a non-playing team manager, or want to be noted as a candidate for team captaincy, then please let Andy know soonest. Email him on
  • TEAMS:  WGC has withdrawn its 36-hole team from Division 2 (lack of sufficient support), but has entered three 18-hole Men’s Interclub teams for the 2013 season, as follows:
    • Division 2 for the Kau Kau Trophy
    • Division 6 for the Mana Trophy
    • Division 11 (or 12) for the Kapiti Cup – this is a new entry.
  • PLAYER SELECTION PROCESS:  Trials for player selection will be conducted, as follows:
    • Club Championships:  Performance in both qualifying and match play will serve as a starting point to indicate players’ form and commitment.
    • Other trials:  will be announced in due course (looking at November/December).  Keep your eyes on the Interclub Notice Board in the locker room for updates.

Kapit Veterans

Stableford Competition Congratulations to Kaye Mitchell who won with 42 points, runner up John Starkey  from Judgeford with 40 points and joint 3rd Rod Cavaye and Shirley Cohen from Otaki and the leading lady with 39 points and Richard Nicoll from Judgeford came 5th with 38 points, from a field of 58.

2012 Shootout – with only 2 weeks to go, leading qualifier is Dave Barrow on a very competitive 209, whilst in the vulnerable 19th spot is Paul Keno on 220.

Sunday Stableford – Congratulations to Rae Henderson who won with 38 points, Julie Harris & Maureen Creasy both runners up with 36 pointsm from a field of 16.

Junior Golf Programme Update & Request for Support

Members will be aware that our Junior Task Force is about to launch the WGC Junior Golf Programme which will engage with local schools and bring increased junior golf activity to our club. If any of you have prospective junior golfers and would like to join up with this programme, the contact person is:
Most of the Junior activity will occur on Monday evenings under the supervision of WGA-trained Community Coaches – fellow club members. More detailed programme information is now available on the club’s website (see Junior Golf Programme). If you would like to join this group and (optionally) also receive WGA training, then please contact David – contact details as above.
The Juniors’ Storeroom (next to the Women’s Matchroom) has been re-commissioned to house their equipment and we will be soliciting donations of any equipment that members wish to donate to this worthy cause. The sort of things that we need (in any condition) are:
  • Balls
  • Putters
  • Clubs
  • Bags
  • Trundlers (in working order)
We will be setting up collection points from 24 August – so, get out that unused gear and please keep an eye out for our next notice.

2012 Shootout – As competition hots up and time runs out the 31 competitors are vying for 19 spots on finals day.  Leading qualifier at this stage with 3 rounds to go is Dave Barrow on a very competitive 209. As important is 19th spot which is held currently by Mark Morrissey on 221, so there is still all to play for.

Sunday Stableford – Congratulations to Maureen Creasy who won with 35 points, Nedra Shand runner up with 34 points, and Kate Pope with 32 points.

36 Hole Net Stroke Cup – Round 2: In much better weather conditions the Senior Grade winner was Phil Carthew and the Intermediate winner was Roger Broadbelt, with Stu McLaren as runner up.

2012 Shootout – 31 competitors vying for 19 spots on finals day.  Leading qualifier at this stage with 4 rounds to go is Dave Barrow on a very competitive 209. As important is 19th spot which is held currently by Gary Coutts on 222, so there is still all to play for.

The women’s Shootout competition has 21 competitors, the leading qualifiers are Helen Booth and Debbie Turner on 218, with 19th spot being held by Jill Bolland on a very relaxed 251.
