   AUGUST 2011

 

 

 

WEATHER 

 

  • There has been 60mm of rain this month with major snowfall and two frosts, which slowed down growth a bit.

 

  COMPLETED WORK

 

  • Built up ladies 5th tee.
  • Built up 12th blue tee.
  • Completed turfing (turf from Levin), laser levelling and irrigation on new 4th blue tee.
  • Completed seeding and laser levelling the new 12th blue, 5th blue and ladies 5th tees.
  • The soil in the rough by the 4th green has been levelled and seeded.
  • Potholes in the paths were filled with lime.
  • Dad’s Army cleaned up and planted out natives in behind the 13th ladies tee.
  • Willows by the 4th blue tee and in the car park were removed because they were dead and dangerous for cars and golfers.
  • Sprayed tees with insecticide and fertiliser.

 

 

 COURSE GROOM

 

  • Fairways were cut fortnightly.
  • Tees were cut Thursdays and tee pads were cut around.
  • Surrounds were cut weekly with the fairway mower.
  • Rough was cut once this month.
  • The bunkers were raked every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • The greens were cut or rolled every day apart from Saturdays.
  • Hazard lines have been cut and sprayed this month. 
  • New holes on greens were cut Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Rubbish bins were emptied every Monday and Friday.
  • Tee banks were fly mowed and weedeated around once this month.

 

GREENS

 

  • They have been sprayed with iron sulphate, potassium, fungicide, then fertilized.
  • Fusarium patch was a factor this month because it returned on old scarring but was controlled promptly; However with the cold weather the scars still remain for some time.

 

 

 

MACHINERY

 

  • The 3150 greens mower was serviced and the valve clearances were adjusted.
  • The 3050 greens mower had an oil leak on the main pump drive shaft and was promptly fixed. It also has a faulty ignition switch, which has been ordered.  And a leak on the reel motor, which was fixed with a new seal.
  • Repaired one weed eater pull cord, which was broken.
  • Serviced rough mower PTO shaft and cover.
  • The Toro Twister is out of order and is currently been fixed (new rings and pistons required.).
  • Pump shed and wiring was struck by lightning taking out the hydrovar pump. Waiting for insurance now to give us the final word, and the electrician has given the damage report.

 

 

NEXT MONTH AGENDA

 

  • Burn branches and trimmings in the dumpsite.
  • De-thatch and harvest greens with 3mm blades at 50mm deep. (Renovation)
  • Fell more trees for firewood by the 11th pond.
  • Replace wooden boards on the 3rd to 12th bridge.
  • Irrigation checks.
  • Fix the break in the wiring on the 13th fairway.
