Course Report – Dec 11

WEATHER 

  •  There has been 61.5mm of rain this month, all happening at the start of the month resulting in no carts for one day. Leaving us with the rest of the month very dry with every day over 20 degrees.

 COMPLETED WORK

  •  Weed spraying in the rough to eradicate unwanted weed species.
  • Rake and over sow the 5th ladies and men’s blue tees.
  • Spray greens with the new insecticide acelepryn mentioned in my last course report.
  • Sprayed around trees and paths.
  • Trimmed low hanging willow branches for easy mowing in the rough.
  • Replace coil on 1st and 11th fairway. Also the 7th tee because the irrigation was not working on these areas.

 COURSE GROOM

  •  Fairways were cut twice weekly.
  • Tees were cut Thursdays.
  • Surrounds were cut twice weekly with the fairway mower.
  • Rough was cut every week this month except Christmas break where semi rough was only cut.
  • The bunkers were raked every Friday.
  • The greens were cut every day, except for Saturdays and every second day over the Christmas break.
  • Hazard lines have been cut this month. 
  • New holes on greens were cut Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Rubbish bins were emptied every Monday and Friday.
  • Tee banks were fly mowed and weedeated around twice this month.

GREENS

  •  The greens were sprayed with ETHREL to stop the Poa annua from seeding and create a more even ball roll.
  • They were also sprayed with a wetting agent, fertiliser and fungicide to help prevent ponding and disease with the dry humid weather we have been having.
  • The greens were left with quite a bad dry patch on the 5th of December because of a power cut turning the computer off which the irrigation is run by. This has been treated and we are now waiting for recovery.
  • We were also hit with a disease called Waitera patch, which is a fairly new disease that is new into golf course greens originating from Pine Pollen. This was treated and has recovered well.

MACHINERY

  • Reface and sharpen 3050 greens mower blades.
  • Reface and sharpen 3150 greens mower blades.
  • Push mower throttle is broken and waiting for part to be fixed.
  • Replace tensioner pulley and grease the rough mower.
  • Fully Grease Fairway Mower.

 NEXT MONTH AGENDA

  •  Course grooming in preparation for pro am tournament.
  • Verti Cut and sand greens.
