COURSE REPORT – Nov 11

 WEATHER 

  •  There has been 46mm of rain this month, compared to 31mm for the same period last year.
  • High winds this month created extra work for staff and the rough mower, having to clean up fallen branches and leaves around all the willow trees. 

  COMPLETED WORK

  • The irrigation to the ladies new 5th tee was successfully installed.
  • Weed spraying on fairways and tees was completed.
  • Greens were verti-drained to aerate the soil, relieve compaction and help reduce surface water.
  • Greens were verti-cut to remove dead matter and stand turf upright for a more even ball roll.
  • Verti-cut and over sow the ladies 5th and men’s blue tees.
  • The step on the 9th tee was repaired after someone had driven off the step with a cart collapsing it.
  • Tree trimmings in dumpsite were burnt and cleaned up.

 COURSE GROOM 

  • Fairways were cut weekly.
  • Tees were cut Thursdays.
  • Surrounds were cut weekly with the fairway mower.
  • Rough was cut every week this month.
  • The bunkers were raked every Friday.
  • The greens were cut every day, except for Saturdays.
  • Hazard lines have been cut this month. 
  • New holes on greens were cut Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Rubbish bins were emptied every Monday and Friday.
  • Tee banks were fly mowed and weedeated around twice this month.
  • Greens sprinklers were trimmed around.

 GREENS 

  • The greens were sprayed with ETHREL and MODDUS to stop the Poa annua from seeding and create a more even ball roll.
  • They were also sprayed with a wetting agent, fertiliser and fungicide to help prevent ponding and disease with the bad weather we have been having.

MACHINERY 

  • The fly mow was repaired after a valve screw had disappeared.
  • The 3150 greens mower had sparkplugs and fuel filter replaced, and the valves were tightened up.
  • The 4320 John Deer Tractor had an oil and filter change.
  • The reels on the 3050 greens mower were back-lapped, sharpened, and the heights were adjusted. 

NEXT MONTH AGENDA 

  • Course grooming
  • Spraying around tee banks for weeds
  • Spraying surrounds and rough for broad-leaf weeds
  • Spray around trees and paths (weather permitting)
  • Spray a new product on greens called Du Pont Acelepryn, which is an insecticide new to the market. Very safe chemical to use. It does not kill bees and has a very low toxicity rating to birds and fish. It lasts 6months in the soil saving the Club money on other applications.
  • Verti cut greens, then sand dress
